Dear Yogis,
Sorry this is a little late reaching you this month. There's been a lot going on over here!
It began in the most beautiful way, with our Lammas Sunrise Celebration — and what a morning it was.
I was joined by my incredible friend Nikki Hand from Soliton Wellbeing, who gave us the most beautiful sound bath. We shared yoga, ritual, fire, beautiful food and breakfast together, laughter, connection and, of course, that magical feeling of being together as the sun rose.
Lammas is traditionally a celebration of the first harvest — a time to pause and acknowledge what has been growing, what is beginning to ripen and what we are ready to gather in.
And I think that is such a beautiful invitation for us all.
To pause.
To notice.
To appreciate what is already here.
Lately, I have been trying to get up every morning for sunrise and make my way to the beach. To have a swim, breathe in the morning air and spend a little time alone with nature before the day begins.
And honestly, things hit differently when I start my day like that.
There is something that feels deeply right in my being when I am standing by the sea, watching the sun rise, feeling the water around me and remembering that I am part of something so much bigger than myself.
The summer holidays have now begun and my daughter is officially a teenager — which is a whole new adventure in itself!
And life, as always, has been bringing me plenty to contemplate.
About two weeks ago I became quite poorly and have spent some time going backwards and forwards to the doctors for tests. I am now awaiting a scan, and although I don’t know exactly what is going on yet, it has given me another of those powerful reminders about how easily we can take our health for granted.
Our vitality.
Our energy.
Our bodies.
Our ability to simply get up and do all the things we love.
When something suddenly changes, it can make you stop and reassess.
What am I eating?
How am I nourishing myself?
How much am I drinking?
How much stress am I carrying?
What are my thought patterns?
Am I actually listening to my body?
As we move through our 50s and through menopause, I think there is an even greater invitation to take care of ourselves — not from a place of fear, but from a place of love.
I have always believed that sometimes things come into our lives to show us something.
Perhaps to slow us down.
Perhaps to pay attention.
Perhaps to make different choices.
Perhaps simply to remind us how precious this life really is.
So I am trying to listen.
To be present.
To trust.
And to allow the journey to unfold without needing to know exactly where it is taking me.
I am still teaching my beautiful outdoor classes, and I feel incredibly grateful every time I stand on the beach at 7am and look out across the bay.
We are practising outside, surrounded by the sea, sky and all the beauty of nature — and it really is quite spectacular.
My Wednesday morning beach practice continues, as well as my Monday evening class at the Imperial, where we are also taking our practice outdoors and overlooking the bay.
There is something so special about practising yoga outside.
The breath feels different.
The body feels different.
And somehow the practice becomes less about what we are doing and more about simply being.
August is one of my favourite months of the year because it is a month of community for me.
I am heading off to work at the incredible Medicine Festival, then to teach yoga at Beautiful Days and to share my love of holistic massage at Rainbow Gathering.
There is something about sitting around fires, sleeping under the stars, listening to music, practising yoga, sharing food and being surrounded by kindred spirits that brings me back to myself.
It reminds me that we are never really separate.
We are part of something much bigger.
So as we move through these last beautiful weeks of summer, I invite you to savour them.
Get outside.
Watch the sunrise if you can.
Swim in the sea.
Sit beneath a tree.
Put your bare feet on the earth.
Laugh with your friends.
Rest when you need to.
And perhaps most importantly, be gentle with yourself.
Life doesn’t always unfold in the way we imagine it will.
But there can be such beauty in learning to trust the unfolding.
I have been listening to lots of podcasts and talking to friends whilst I have been poorly, and the message that keeps coming through is the same:
Be here.
Be present.
Trust life.
We don’t always need to have the answers.
Sometimes we just need to take the next breath, take the next step and see where the journey takes us.
🍂 Our Next Sunrise Celebration — Autumn Equinox
Our next sunrise yoga will be a very special one, celebrating the Autumn Equinox on Saturday 19th September, 6:30am–8:30am.
These sunrise sessions really are the most exquisite way to start your day.
There is honestly nothing quite like practising yoga as the world wakes up around you — watching the light change, breathing in the morning air and connecting with nature, yourself and one another.
If you haven’t experienced one yet, I really suggest coming along before autumn and winter begin to settle in.
Come and breathe, move, watch the sunrise, connect and welcome the turning of the seasons with us.
I would absolutely love to share this beautiful morning with you.
Thank you, as always, for allowing me to share my absolute passion for yoga with you.
It is such an honour to practise and share this beautiful path with you all.
I am always here for you, dear ones.
Sending you all so much love.
Nina xxx
Breathe, love, laugh, be kind + be grateful
