Ā
Iām sending this love letter out on the Super Full Moon ā a beautiful moment for illumination and release. The full moon always invites us to pause, reflect on whatās been, and gently let go of what we no longer need as we move toward the deep quiet of winter. It's the brightest of the year and on my most favourite night of the year Bonfire night - I couldn't be more thrilled to be under the starlit sky tonight wrapped up and cosy.
Ā
This Super Full Moon feels like a deep exhale ā a time of release. Ā Itās a moment to shed the heaviness, to forgive ourselves for whatās passed, and to make space for gentleness and new beginnings as we move into winterās embrace.
Ā
November is here, and it feels as though winter has really, truly arrived. The air is sharper, the days shorter, and everything seems to be inviting us inward ā to rest, to reflect, and to nourish our roots.
Ā
October was probably one of the most difficult months of the year for me. My mother was rushedĀ into hospital and wasĀ very poorly, and the worry and uncertainty that followed sent ripples of anxiety and panic through my nervous system. It was such a difficult time to navigate for me.Ā
I recently read something beautiful about how, in certain African cultures, when someone is suffering from depression or anxiety, they go to stay with different families each night until they feel better ā held in community, surrounded by care. That really touched me. So I followed a similar call and went to stay with a dear friend in St. Ives. My auntie came down to look after my mama and Ines which I'm every grateful for.
Ā
Those few days by the sea gave me time to breathe Ā ā to walk the dogs, cook nourishing food, rest deeply, and simply be with the love of one of my oldest dear friends.Ā Ā My mum is now home, but the whole experience reminded me of the fragility of life, and how much I truly love and value my loved ones.
This month I also attended a beautiful online ceremony forĀ SamheinĀ which was so sweet and heart-opening. Iāve been clearing my house, and preparing to move in with my mum ā letting go of things, simplifying life, and creating space for what really matters. There is great effort in simplifying one's life but I am moving into a much more zen part of my life - less consuming - more simplicity.
Ā
So November for me is a month of slowing down. Of going to bed earlier, reading more, eating wholesome food, resting when my body asks.Ā
Ā
Yoga, as always, brings us back to the present moment ā to the breath, the body, and the truth of where we are right now. Yesterday I shared a class for anxiety and depression, and each time I do, it brings tears to my eyes seeing how deeply it touches people. It truly is such a needed modality in this busy, modern world ā a balm for the nervous system and the soul.
Ā
So please, come to your mat before the busyness of Christmas begins. Give yourself the gift of time, of stillness, of love. And to do that surrounded by warmth and spa bliss ā what a beautiful thing to do in the heart of winter.
Ā
I always want to be real and authentic with you, to share whatās truly happening in my life. Sometimes life is challenging ā but through it all, yoga, rest, and community continue to hold me. And I hope they hold you too.
Ā Iād love to invite you to my next workshop on Saturday , 22nd November ā 4 nourishing hours of welcoming in winter. Weāll honour this beautiful turning of the wheel, embracing the stillness and introspection that winter brings. This is such an important time to pause and reflect, to gather our energy and prepare for the lightās slow return as we move towards the Winter Solstice ā natureās invitation to rest, release, and restore.Well spend 2 hours practicing overlooking the bay - gentle yoga, journelling, long guided relaxation - and then 2 hours in the Imperial Spa.
Ā
Weāll be using my handmade scrubs and sacred oils, lovingly prepared for this session, and spending time in the beautiful spa overlooking Torquay Bay, with use of the steam room and jacuzzis ā a perfect way to soothe body and soul as we enter the deep quiet of winter.
Ā
Ā
Thank you, as always, for showing up to yoga, for moving, breathing, and being part of this community. I honestly donāt know what Iād do without it.You can choose three classes a week. If you haven't tried my online rest for the session on Wednesday joining your first class free just getting in touch it's a beautiful way to replenish yourself this week. I also offer lovely yummy treatment to your own individual needs.
Ā
Take care of yourself this month, and remember - winter isnāt about doing more; itās about being more present.
WELCOME NOVEMBER
There is something about November that says ājust keep goingā.We are not quite through the year yet the finish-line looms out of nowhere. We are plunged into darkness by Mother Nature. We are faced with the āseason of joyā,Ā and yet many of us wonder where we will find it. And I think November is a great time to take a little peek behind you,Ā and see just how much youāve done. To take stock of your achievements, your endurance,Ā your survival. To rest, reinforce, before the festivities envelope us all. Before beautiful new beginnings.
And most importantly, November is a time to seek out light.Ā As the natural order darkens, we must find it ourselves. We must do whatever we can to brighten our day,Ā our home, the world. Seek out light wherever you can my friends,Ā and pay no heed to those who condemn your sparkle. You are much-needed. Keep showing up, in that special way only you can do. And show up for yourself tooĀ (which can sometimes mean not showing up somewhere else).
This year has been hard. Again. But beautiful. Again. As is the way of life. As is the way of life.
Welcoming in all that Winter brings.
Ā
With love,
Nina Ā x
